Don’t bury your head in the sand this Easter weekend

All weather card at Kempton can be a treat for punters

It’s good to see the quality of racing on the all weather improving and Saturday’s card at Kempton features 3 solvable races that are all being shown on Channel 4.

 

Back the Boss in seven furlong handicap

 

The 7f handicap at 2.15 features some unexposed sorts but a few have been hit hard by the handicapper for winning uncompetitive races.

Outback Traveller’s easy Ascot win last term seemed to come out of nowhere and he’s up 12lbs, Speculative Bid won a weak race comfortably and is now 8lbs higher whilst Triple Chocolate is up 4lbs and has to prove himself over this trip.

 

There is no evidence that the race won by Mr Bossy Boots last time out has much depth to it but he had previously finished 3rd behind Rich Again who won again two more times and the 2nd in that race, Shyron, also won his next two starts.

That was Mr Bossy Boots’ only defeat on the all weather and he looks highly likely to run very well again.

 

Of the more exposed runners Ninjago is very interesting.

He won a conditions event over course and distance a week ago in first time blinkers (on again) and he’s on the same mark as when finishing 2nd in last season’s Stewards Cup.

This race certainly isn’t as competitive as that and he can follow home Mr Bossy Boots.

 

Have Lady Luck on your side in Snowdrop Stakes

 

The listed Snowdrop Stakes gives the fillies a chance to shine and it should be worth concentrating on the runners rated in three ps, of which there are 4.

Lady Dutch, Queen Catrine, Victoria Regina and Wee Jean are all rated within 2lbs of each other but we can probably rule out the latter for win purposes, she often runs well but has only got her head in front in one of her last 17 races (against another horse that is hard to win with).

 

Ex-French filly Victoria Regina is fit from racing in Dubai but looks a bit tripless whilst Queen Catrine ended last season out of form and has never run on the polytrack before.

That leaves Lady Dutch who demonstrated good tactical speed to win over course and distance in February in race where she beat some reliable yardsticks.

She was also a big market drifter in that race on her debut for Marco Botti so it seems likely she’ll have improved from that.

 

Lightly raced Love a class above rivals

 

The mile handicap at 3.25 revolves around John Gosden’s Made With Love who could be a class above this lot. He’s had just the 3 runs, winning her latest start, a course and distance maiden, by 5 lengths in December.

On his debut he chased home the 95 rated Basem and then on his second start he finished just behind another 95 rated horse, Dream Spirit.

The bare form of his maiden win isn’t up to much but with those previous efforts already in the bank it would be a big surprise if he can’t win off a mark of 90.

 

One that might outrun his odds is Secret Art. He has a good record at this venue and has been much better than the bare result on his last two starts at Lingfield, a course that doesn’t seem to suit quite so well.

He’s now just 1lb higher than when finishing 2nd to Tigers Tale in the London Mile Handicap Final in September.
