Premier League Matchday 10 Preview & Best Bets (2023)
Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbooks
Wolverhampton (+310) vs. Newcastle United (-120), DRAW (+310) | 2.5 (-145/+120)
The Saturday action in the PL concludes with a match between Wolves and Newcastle. The Wanderers come into the new matchday at 12th in the table (11 points) while the visitors are sixth (16). Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET from Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton.
I was back and forth between Newcastle on the moneyline and the over on their team total. I’ve decided that with the slight uptick in Gary O’Neil’s offense, I’ll go ahead and eliminate their frisky offense from the equation. Let’s go with the latter, and lock in Newcastle to score at least twice.
The Magpies currently boast the league’s best offense as they’ve found the back of the net 24 times over nine matches. Most recently, it was a 4-0 beatdown over Crystal Palace last weekend. It’s worth noting that Newcastle was blanked 1-0 in their mid-week UCL match with Dortmund. However, that was the only time in their last five matches that they were held under two goals. Eddie Howe’s crew have scored at least two goals in each of their last four EPL matches. All things considered, I’m fine with laying the juice to say they make it five straight.
Bet: Newcastle United Over 1.5 Goals (-140)
Aston Villa (-360) vs. Luton Town (+950), DRAW (+550) | 3.5 (+115/-140)
I’m kicking myself for not taking a shot on Aston Villa to finish top four in the table prior to the season. This team is on an astronomical trajectory right now, taking care of business in both the PL and Europa League. The Villans will host Luton Town on Sunday morning. This one gets underway at 10:00 a.m. ET from Villa Park in Birmingham.
As you can tell, I’m very high on Unai Emery’s men right now. I’ll lay the 1.5 goals with them at home against the lowly Hatters. Aston Villa has out-scored their opponents by a combined 16-4 in their last five matches.
Now they’ll have a favorable matchup against a Luton Town squad that’s just above the relegation line with five points. They’ve been decent defensively, allowing just 17 goals over nine matches. However, 11 of the goals they’ve conceded have come during five road contests (2.2 GA). Ultimately, Ollie Watkins (five PL goals) and Douglas Luiz (five PL goals) are on fire right now, and I’ll take them to stretch out this lead by at least two tallies.
Bet: Aston Villa -1.5 (-145)
Manchester United (+400) vs. Manchester City (+295), DRAW (-145) | 2.5 (-130/+105)
The Manchester Derby renews this weekend, and United will host this rivalry clash. This is the Sunday nightcap, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m. ET from Old Trafford.
Is United finally turning things around? Well, even though they’ve won three straight matches, I’m not confident in saying that. Just look at the competition they’ve faced. They have a pair of 2-1 wins in the PL over Brentford and Sheffield United, and the third victory was a 1-0 contest against Copenhagen in the Champions League this week. This is far from top competition.
Enter Manchester City, who is still the best team in the world. They’re second in the PL table with 21 points, trailing only Tottenham (26 points). They’re also on a tear on the continental stage, winning each of their first three UCL matches 3-1. Sure, Pep Guardiola’s squad has been a bit vulnerable on the road, but they’re still the much more talented team in this match. I’ll take them to escape with the three points.
Bet: Manchester City Moneyline (-145)
